Bioregional Financing Facilities

Posted on Thursday, April 10, 2025Thursday, April 17, 2025

Samantha Power’s brilliant work on BFFs, as she likes to call them, is attracting wide support. Her case is compelling. Major financial institutions themselves recognize that they are underinvesting in local regenerative economies, and they are ill-equipped to do so.

The Book

Bioregional Financing Facilities: Reimagining Finance to Regenerate Our Planet lays out the rationale behind this approach and templates for Bioregional Trusts, Bioregional Venture Studios, Bioregional Investment Companies, and Bioregional Banks.

What People Are Saying

“Our institutions are no longer serving us. We must give birth to institutions that support a new kind of economy, a new kind of philosophy, a new kind of ontology, a new way of being on this planet. And Bioregional Financing Facilities can play a critical role in supporting that transition.”
‍– Lynne Twist, Founder: Pachamama Alliance

The book can be purchased for $24 from Amazon, but a digital version can be downloaded for free from the BioFi.earth website. It is surprisingly wide-ranging and extensively documented, making it an important part of a new manual for operating Spaceship Earth. (I would argue that Joe Brewer’s Design Pathway for Regenerating Earth is the foundational book, which argues that bioregional regeneration is the only pathway that actually aligns with the Earth’s systems. Organizing finance and the economy this way is then essential.)
